§ 24-4. Signs not requiring a permit.

  • The following signs and devices are exempted from the restrictions and requirements of this chapter and may be used without an approved sign permit when not in violation of any law or safety standard or any other portion of this chapter:

    (1)

    Signs erected by an official governmental body or agency and deemed necessary for the protection of the public health, safety, welfare and morals.

    (2)

    Signs not visible from any public way or from any point off the lot on which they are located.

    (3)

    Flags as defined in this chapter.

    (4)

    Holiday decorations and greetings in season.

    (5)

    One sign per premises not exceeding one square foot in area and having thereon no letter or symbol exceeding three inches in any dimension and bearing only property numbers, post box numbers, names of occupants of premises, or other identification of premises not having commercial connotations.

    (6)

    Traffic directional signs erected for the purposes of improving traffic circulation and safety, provided they are not used for advertising purposes.

    (7)

    Legal notices, identification, informational, or directional signs erected or required by governmental bodies.

    (8)

    Integral decorative or architectural features of buildings, except letters, trademarks, moving parts, or moving lights.
